Partnership towards Malaria Reduction in Migrant and Conflict-Affected Population in Thailand

Objectives

The overall goal of this project is to reduce malaria burden in populations at risk including migrants in endemic areas by targeting two specific population groups in areas where malaria persists:

  • Migrant workers and their families working in Thailand’s western and eastern border regions;
  • Thai communities that host migrant workers and communities living in conflict zones in Thailand’s southern provinces.

Specific objectives:

  • To improve access to early diagnosis and treatment of malaria among vulnerable populations;
  • To improve access to effective malaria prevention measures among vulnerable populations;
  • To increase effective utilization of impregnated bed-nets and prompt treatment seeking behaviours amongst people with fever cases; and
  • To improve the overall functionality of malaria control among vulnerable populations.
Rationale and Abstract

Malaria is controlled or eradicated in most of Thailand but remains endemic in the remote hilly and forested regions of nine provinces. The program supported by this grant aims to reduce the malaria burden in populations at risk including migrants in endemic areas.
