Affordable Medicines for Malaria (AMFm)
Objectives
Rationale and Abstract
The AMFm provides affordable and quality-assured artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) for the public and private sectors in malaria-endemic countries. By reducing the price paid by end-users in these pilot countries, the AMFm uses competition to eliminate the ineffective medicines sold in shops and pharmacies in these countries. It will reduce the use of drugs that no longer work because of drug resistance and mitigate the use of artemisinin by itself, as monotherapy, thereby delaying the onset of resistance to that drug and preserving its effectiveness.
