Phase 1/2a CHMI clinical trial – RTS,S-AS01 delayed fractional dose

Objectives

Rationale and Abstract

In a GSK/WRAIR phase 1/2a clinical study published in 1997, it was demonstrated that two monthly doses of 50 ug RTS,S+AS02 followed by boosting at seven months with 10 µg RTS,S+AS02 (fractional dose) resulted in high efficacy against P. falciparum challenge (six of seven protected). This high level of efficacy has not been repeated using alternative regimens that do not include a fractional booster dose.

Working with GSK and WRAIR, we are repeating this study, using a similar vaccination regimen and a larger group size, to determine if the high level of efficacy was a chance finding (original assumption), or not.
