Sustainable Insecticides for Public Health
Objectives
UKaid is core funding IVCC to support the development of a complete toolbox of vector control product to prevent malaria transmission. It includes:
- Novel artificial intelligence (AI): Advancing lead candidates from pre-development to the development phase. This includes performing laboratory and field testing, long term toxicological studies to demonstrate safety and process manufacturing optimization.
- Repurposing: Completion of the WHO Prequalification (PQ) review for two dual AIs bed nets; launch of new projects for non-pyrethroid nets and testing and registration of new long-lasting IRS.
- Outdoor transmission prevention: Complete proof of concept (POC) evaluation of three projects: (1) Attractive Toxic Sugar Bait, (2) Push-Pull and (3) Targeted Swarms. If successful, these POC projects will move into full product development projects to enable deployment of these technologies.
- IVM: Produce recommendations for the combination of vector control intervention to maximize impact.
- Access: Facilitate the deployment of new products and the implementation of Insecticide Resistance Management (IRM) strategies by developing new models, protocols and the creation of innovative financing mechanisms.
- Regulatory pathway: Support the creation of alternative review and registration process for new insecticidal public health products. This includes the implementation of WHO PQ process and the support to Innovation partners to compile registration dossiers.
