Proactive community case management in Senegal 2014-2016: a case study in maximizing the impact of community case management of malaria

Objectives

This case study describes the process, results and lessons learned from Senegal’s implementation of PECADOM Plus, an active case detection model in which community health workers (CHW) visit all households weekly during transmission season to identify fever cases and offer case management, in addition to availability during the week for home-based management.

Specific objectives:
– Describe the approach followed by the National Malaria Control Programme.
– Present the programmatic results from the first 3 years of scale-up (2014–2016).
– Discuss the recommendations for future study and implementation .
