Malaria Response Interventions in Nigeria


This ongoing WHO response aims to target child mortality caused by malaria, malnutrition and other comorbidities in Borno State, Nigeria through 5 monthly rounds of mass drug administration (MDA).

Rationale and Abstract

The MDA campaign is administered by community health workers and consists of Artesunate + Amodiaquine, 5 monthly rounds during the high transmission season. (Series of 3 campaigns, 1st November 2017, 3rd planned for October 2018)

Concomitant interventions:

  • Wild poliovirus type 1
  • LLIN distribution providing universal coverage
  • Vector control

1.2 million children under 5 regardless of infection status have been reached from 5 areas in Borno State.
